Visiting the Shwedagon pagoda is a unique experience: not only does it have historical significance, but it is also a living religious centre, which may help us understand what this site actually means to the Burmese. It gives us a glimpse of a facet of Buddhism which incorporates the belief in spirits and astrology, in an unusual, sometimes disconcerting décor.
