The Lesser Sunda islands, east of Bali, offer a great variety of landscapes and traditions. The region has been named Wallacea, after Alfred Wallace, who was the first to realise how these islands represented the steppingstones between Southeast Asia and Australia. This explains some of the migrations, the specific flora and fauna, and allows the visitor to catch a glimpse of very ancient cultures. Komodo dragons, Papuan and mixed populations, intricate textiles, make this is a really special part of Indonesia.
