Nowadays, Greece is fairly small country and its population is about 10 million. One could therefore expect its role on the international scene to be modest. However, if one looks at its influenceon on western civilisation, it is obvious that it is paramount (philosophy, etymology, science etc.). A survey of its history highlights the extraordinary resilience of its culture that has , like a phoenix rising from its ashes, survived to this day.
This lecture was created to introduce ports of call in Greece when the itinerary does not allow me to cover the different periods of its history. If time allows, it should be complemented by others.
