Dalmatia, the last bastion of the West

One would tend to think of countries such as Croatia or Montenegro as being part of the “Eastern bloc” because of recent history. But, in fact, the Dalmatian coast, because of its geographical situation, has looked towards the Adriatic and the West for centuries, and the Greek, Roman, and Venetian heritage is obvious. The “Illyrian dream”, whose name is derived from earlier inhabitants is also still present, even if the majority of the population is now Slavic.
