Tales of Ravenna : Galla Placidia, Theodoric, Justinian and others

Tags:

With a harbour on the Adriatic, while the city itself was protected by a lagoon, Ravenna was a strategic location during Antiquity. As well as the Greeks and the Etruscans, the Romans settled there and even chose it as their capital when the Empire was threatened by the Barbarians. Several original characters stayed there, Galla Placidia after she had been kidnapped by the Visigoths, Odoacer, who deposed the last Roman emperor, Theodoric, the Ostrogoth king, before the town fell to the Byzantines and then the Lombards. The resulting architectural heritage of this period is truly magnificent and justifies its status as a Unesco site.
